“Waipahu High School”

Waipahu was the first school on the Leeward side. It was founded in 1938 and served students from Aiea, Pearl City, Waipahu, Ewa, Nanakuli, and Waianae. The high school was initially located on the present site of Waipahu Intermediate School. In 1969, the school moved to its present site to accommodate a larger student body.

High school students from Leeward Oahu originally had to take the OR&L train to McKinley, a long commute. They were able to transfer to Waipahu when it opened in 1938.

The school mascot, the Marauder, was named for a U.S. B-26 airplane that crashed on the school campus. The mascot was meant to rally support for our armed forces. Today, though, the Marauder has evolved and refers to a pirate.2

Midst the waving tassels stands Waipahu High

Breezes from the mountains sweep across the sky

Let us pledge our Love to Alma Mater

Keep thy precepts without fail

In loving praise, our voices raise

Waipahu, our high school

Our Alma Mater, Hail

 All Hail Waipahu, Hail Waipahu

Hail, Hail, Hail

Tranquil lies Pearl Harbor placid in repose

Fields are rich and fertile where the tall cane grows

Let us offer thanks to Alma Mater

Cherish well thy honored name

From far and near, our voices cheer

Waipahu, our high school

Long will live thy fame.

Hawaii’s own true sons, be loyal to your chief
Your country’s liege and lord, the Alii.
Father above us all, Kamehameha,
Who guarded in the war with his ihe.

Senior Class Song
"Climb Ev'ry Mountain"
Music by Richard Rodgers   Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II - 1959
Climb every mountain, search high and low
Follow every byway, every path you know
Climb every mountain, ford every stream
Follow every rainbow, till you find your dream
A dream that will need
All the love you can give
Every day of your life
For as long as you live
Climb every mountain, ford every stream
Follow every rainbow, till you find your dream

"...From far and near, our voices cheer Waipahu, our high school Long will live thy fame."
